Project Summary
Esna is located on the west bank of the River Nile, some 55 km south of Luxor, in the modern Luxor governorate. However, such Nile interface is untapped visually, physically, or economically. Thus, the development plan includes improving the urban environment of the city via taking advantage of spatial features for Esna temple, as well as preserving the value of existing buildings that belong to the Islamic civilization.
Project objectives
The objective of the project is to establish and accomplish a work plan for environmentally sustainable tourism development that also benefits the local population. To reach this objective, the following core themes emerged from a study approach that stressed the active participation of all major stakeholders: Preservation of cultural resources protects Egypt’s heritage and promotes economic development, Planned growth promotes sustainable economic development and meeting the contemporary needs of local residents is vital to the success of plans.
